Taylor Tomu

Tomu received her BS in Anthropology from DePaul University before moving to Ohio to receive her MA in Anthropology from The Ohio State University.  Prior to starting the doctoral program in anthropology at The Ohio State University, Tomu was involved in research focused on understanding Black mother’s perspectives on safe sleep policies, messaging, and its influence on infant sleep practices in Ohio. Her theoretical interests are grounded at the intersections of Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality Theory, and Black Feminist Theory. Tomu’s dissertation research focuses on understanding how Black agency, specifically Black women Community Healthcare Workers, disrupt the presumed whiteness of critical medical work during the pandemic. Tomu is a research assistant to OPEN’s Abortion Clinic Closures project.
