The Patterns in Abortion Utilization in Ohio and Surrounding States project uses facility-level monthly data, abortion patient chart review, and secondary data to understand changes across time and geography in abortion utilization in Ohio, surrounding states, and across the country. We contextualize these changes within state and federal abortion policy changes, with particular attention toward disparities for structurally disadvantaged people.
Collecting, collating, and analyzing the data from OPEN’s Patterns in Abortion Utilization in Ohio and Surrounding States project is foundational in many analyses about abortion access and related policies. Trusted relationships with clinics and community groups allow the OPEN team to gather primary data otherwise inaccessible to researchers, and we act as an intermediary sharing data with SFP’s #WeCount effort.
